NEW FERRETTI 800 – Raising the bar……

80FT OF INNOVATION, INSPIRATION AND INGENUITY

In a radical, trend-setting initiative, Ferretti announces its new 80-footer with three double cabins, two of them full-beam – plus crew accommodation for four up in the bow rather than in the usual place at the stern.  In another departure from convention, the new Ferretti 800 has a striking two-tone colour scheme, with the bridge being finished in a dark bronze, giving it a unique and unmistakable look.

The 800’s x-factor, which afforded the designers the space and the freedom to create this exceptional interior, is that familiar Ferretti ‘signature’ v-drive engine installation.  This places the engines right at the stern, driving forward through v-drive gearboxes.  That means they are where the crew quarters are aboard most of the 800’s rivals. Ferretti’s solution on the 800 was to locate the crew accommodation in the bow.  This immediately has the advantage that it makes everything for the crew much more convenient, as it puts the crew, the galley and the bridge in the closest possible proximity to one another.  In addition, because the crew areas are entirely separate from the rest of the boat, the crew seldom need to encroach on the owner and guest areas at all as they go about their duties below decks.  Putting the crew quarters up forward like this also frees up more of the broadest part of the boat for guest accommodation.  Which is how the 800 came to have not just one full-beam suite, but two.

The owner’s suite itself has some of the largest hull windows Ferretti has yet produced – with opening ports of course. It also has a corner walk-in wardrobe, a lounger under the port window, and an exceptionally large en suite bathroom with separately screened shower cubicle and wc/bidet cubicle.  Also extending right across the full beam, and almost as large as the owner’s suite, is the VIP guest suite.  The third guest suite is on the port side, and has a double bed that can be separated into two to create a twin-berth cabin when required.  The fourth guest cabin has two single bunks, and all four cabins have their own en suite facilities.

Having pioneered large hull windows with opening ports, Ferretti has been working ever since to extend this feature still further.  That has resulted in yet another remarkable first aboard the 800, in that all four of the cabins have hull windows with opening ports – a unique attribute for a boat of this size.

If the accommodation aboard the 800 seems unusually large for an 80-footer – perhaps more like an 85-footer – that’s because she has a much shorter stern platform than most – until you open it up, that is, when the full bathing platform is revealed as the garage door is lowered, adding another five feet to her overall length. Inside the garage is storage space for watersports gear and a jet-ski.  The 800’s tender is stowed on the aft area of the flybridge, and is launched and recovered with an electro-hydraulic davit. A flybridge hardtop, with an opening section, is an option.

Ferretti has been on something of a mission of late, to introduce more and more window area into their saloons, for more light and the best possible outlook. On the 800, the windows are virtually continuous along both sides of the saloon, giving it a wonderfully light and open feel.  The space is divided almost equally between the sitting area aft and the dining area forward.  The elm finish and contemporary furnishings are typically Italian – chic, wonderfully tasteful and as cool as they come.

Although the layout of the 800 has been optimised for crusing with a full crew, it is worth bearing in mind that she is actually 23.98m overall. Being just under 24m means she can be driven without the need for professional or yachtmaster qualifications – worth bearing in mind for any potential owner with an ICC and a large extended family who fancy occupying the crew quarters themselves.

Twin 1800hp MAN diesels are expected to give the 800 a cruising speed of 27.5 knots and a top speed of 31.5 knots.

Like all Ferrettis, the 800 is built to RCD category ‘A’ – approved for winds above force 8 and waves over 4m. This contrasts with virtually all its rivals, which are category ‘B’ and consequently approved only for winds of force 8 and below and waves under 4m.
