At 54ft overall, the 5x is the smallest, lightest and most nimble of all the 45-knot Pershings, and as a consequence, some say that makes her the most fun to drive. She was born of customers’ desire for a smaller model, under 60ft, with all the usual Pershing qualities, and which also had the enclosed main deck saloon of the larger boats.
Like the larger Pershings, the 5x has a sliding glazed door and window enclosing the rear of the main saloon which folds away and tucks up under the roof above, to create a fabulous, seamless, open-plan living space right through from helm to aft cockpit. Down below, the delightful owner's suite is full beam, with a transverse bed giving lovely views out through the hull window. A second double suite is in the bow, plus either a third cabin or a lower dining saloon opposite the galley.View Gallery
The profile of the 5x displays the very latest Pershing styling, including the arching aerofoils that sweep back from the coachroof to the stern and effectively channel the air flow to deflect spray away from the aft cockpit. There's plenty of outside space to enjoy, with a foredeck sunbed, seating/dining in the aft cockpit, a huge aft sunbed and a stern platform. A neat stern garage houses a tender up to 2.8m.View Gallery
The 5x is available with either surface drives (42 knots max) or Volvo IPS drives (36 knots max). The remarkable thing is that the fuel economy is actually better at the faster speed! The 42-knot 2200hp surface drive version has a cruising range of 290nm at cruising speed, while the 35-knot 1450hp IPS version has a range at cruising speed of 285nm – with the same 2200L fuel tanks. The surface drive version actually consumes less fuel per mile, while travelling around 6 knots faster!
